A crisp, sunny April day set the stage for Effie and Paolo’s wedding, and from the moment I arrived, I knew it was going to be something special. Having photographed their fun-filled engagement shoot in Birmingham, I already knew how effortlessly joyful they were. After a big move to the US, they returned to the UK to celebrate, and Barns & Yard was the perfect setting for their story.

Nestled in the Worcestershire countryside, Barns & Yard is a true hidden gem. With its historic Tudor barns, warm interiors, and breathtaking views of the Malvern Hills, it blends rustic charm with modern elegance. It’s a place that feels both intimate and timeless—perfect for a wedding as full of love as Effie and Paolo’s.

From heartfelt vows and golden-hour portraits by the lake to an incredible evening party, their day felt relaxed and fun, just like they are. As the sun set over the hills, I felt incredibly lucky to capture such a beautiful chapter in their journey.

Wedding Preparations

The morning had the loveliest, easygoing start. Effie and her bridesmaids took their time in the beautiful barn, all wrapped up in matching pink pyjamas, sipping champagne, and the sound of Effie’s dad practicing his guitar in the background. Just next door, Paolo and his groomsmen were straightening ties, polishing shoes, and keeping the mood excited. Everything flowed so effortlessly—setting the perfect tone for the rest of the day.

In a quiet, intimate moment, Effie’s mum helped her into her dress—a memory that made the morning even more special. With the final touches in place, she looked absolutely breathtaking. We took a few portraits to capture her gorgeous bridal glow before she stepped out into the day.

Guests gathered by the lake, taking in the beautiful surroundings as they waited for the ceremony to begin. Just before Effie made her entrance, her bridesmaids got their first look at her in the courtyard. Their eyes welled up with tears—such a heartfelt, emotional moment, the kind I truly love capturing.

Wedding Ceremony at Barns and Yard

The timber-framed Cartshed made the perfect entrance to Barns & Yard, setting the scene for something really special. The ceremony room, bathed in soft natural light, had this warm, intimate feel as friends and family gathered, buzzing with excitement.

Paolo stood at the front, trying to keep his cool, while just outside, Effie took a deep breath before walking in with her dad by her side. He beamed with pride as he led her down the aisle—a moment filled with so much love.

The ceremony was full of beautiful, personal touches. Their hands were gently tied together in an emotional handfasting, symbolizing their bond. The wedding rings were passed from guest to guest, each offering a quiet blessing before reaching the bride and groom. Then, as the room settled, the father of the bride picked up his guitar and played, adding a special touch that made everything feel even more meaningful.

The rustic charm of the barn surrounded them as they exchanged vows, holding hands tight and their eyes locked. Then, with the sweetest kiss, it was official. The room burst into smiles, happy tears, and so much love—it was impossible not to feel it. After the beautiful ceremony, Effie and Paolo stepped outside as guests showered them with confetti, marking their first moments as newlyweds.

Barns and Yard Wedding Photography Portraits

I always love taking the newlyweds away for a short walk and some portraits. It’s such a special time for them to enjoy a few quiet moments as husband and wife. Effie and Paolo were so relaxed and fun, completely wrapped up in the day’s joy. As we wandered through the beautiful grounds of Barns & Yard, they laughed, chatted, and soaked it all in while I captured it naturally. Nothing felt rushed or posed—just them, enjoying the moment together. As they headed back, their guests were waiting with big smiles and cheers, ready to celebrate the rest of the day with them.

Wedding Breakfast and Speeches

After the fun family photos by the lake, the speeches began as everyone settled into the beautifully decorated barn. Between bites of the delicious meal, heartfelt words filled the air, bringing a mix of tears and laughter. The relaxed vibe made it all feel so genuine, adding to the charm of the barn wedding. After the wedding breakfast, guests enjoyed drinks in the outdoor courtyard, soaking up the sunset light and the relaxed vibe. I love catching those laid-back moments.

Cake Cutting, First Dance, and Party

After Effie and Paolo cut the stunning cake that Effie had made herself (seriously, how impressive!), the room erupted with cheers as everyone rushed to the dance floor after their first dance. Effie had been talking all day about how much she loves to dance, and she wasn’t kidding! The party was on fire, and I swear, she danced with every guest. Even I ended up on the dance floor without my camera—just soaking in the vibe! This stunning April wedding was a total dream, with an amazing couple whose love and energy made every single moment unforgettable.
